Over the last year Cruiserweight Al “The Haitian Temptation” Sands 16(14)-2 has been doing a lot of soul searching inside and outside the ring. He has put some much needed puzzle pieces together in his life. Two of those pieces are Mike McKean former amateur boxer as his Manager/Trainer and more recently he has brought in as his Co-Manager John D’Auria who has in the past been known more as a boxing photographer and boxing writer/ interviewer for Boxing with the Truth. Between the two of these men they have a lot of boxing knowledge to offer Al Sands, and being the sponge that he is, I am sure he will adsorb a lot of it. Hopefully the three of them will be able to take his career to the next level. He has also started his own amateur team of boxers “The Haitian Temptation Team” which consists of about twenty individuals. He is currently training out of I.S.T. gym in Duluth, MN but is presently working on opening up a gym upstairs from there to help his team continue to grow. He started out 2016 with a 2nd round TKO over Gary Tapusoa in January and now he is in camp preparing for the most experienced boxer he has face yet. On June 11th, 2016 he will face Damon “Dangerous” Reed 48(32)-18, a crafty veteran who most recently upset 16-0 Aaron Green. He has been in with some of the best in the sport. Hasim Rahman, James Toney, Monte Barrett, prospect Jordan Shimmell and Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder among other great talent. In order for Al and his new team to move to the next level he has to show convincingly that he can get passed guys like Reed. There is not a lot of Cruiserweights left for Al Sands to face in the State of Minnesota, so one of his goals after this fight is to test the waters on the road and to try and get matched up with some out of state fights. He loves his hometown fans and the support he has received this far in his career but to make it to the next level, he has to not only let Minnesota know who he is but he has to make his mark on the entire nation and hopefully the world. The team has a plan and they have goals and this year is all about putting the pieces together and starting to reach those goals one step at a time and one fight at a time. So look for Al Sands hopefully to be in the ring at least three more times after June 11th if things work out. This is the first step into the danger zone, but if you want to reach the next level in any sport, you have to take risks and step up the competition. It is time for Al Sands to grow as a man and a fighter. See you at the next level. #TheTruthHasSpoken
Today a fan will get to have his dream come true, he will be stepping into the ring with former World Champion Roy Jones Jr. If Vyron Phillips wins he will be paid $100,000, if he loses, he gets a boxing lesson from the champ, his hotel paid for and a plane ticket back to Minneapolis, MN. Vyron Phillips saw an ad about sending in a video to fight Roy Jones Jr. but had no idea that he would be one of the top four picked. It came down to him a professional MMA fighter with a record of 6-3 and three professional boxers. He said “he still had to jump throw a lot of hoops to make it happen, this is his opportunity”. Since the fight has been approved he told me that his life has changed forever. You can watch him take on Roy Jones Jr. in the Main Event of a four fight card including two MMA matches and an WWE wrestling match. If you go to URshow.TV and pay $11.99 you can see if Vyron Phillips achieves the dream that so many fans would love to do, beat a World Champion. Vyron Phillips “The Fan Picked to fight Roy Jones Jr.”BWTT
This Sunday, March 20th, Roy Jones Jr. will climb into the ring against a boxing fan from Minneapolis, MN. 33 year old Vyron Phillips is a former amateur boxer and MMA fighter that was some how picked to have a chance to beat Roy Jones Jr. in a fight on Pay-Per-View in Arizona and if he wins he will receive $100,000. Well I know another person that would love to fight Roy Jones Jr. from Duluth, MN and that is Professional boxer Al “The Haitian Temptation” Sands 16(14)-2 and I am sure he would be willing to take even a quarter of what Vyron Phillips is being paid. I know some Jones’ team has been contacted more then once about a fight with Sands and there has been no response. So I guess Roy Jones has fallen so far that the only people left he can beat is a former amateur boxer. What if Vyron Phillips wins. Then there is nowhere left for Jones to go but into retirement. If you go from being a World champion to the point where a fan has a chance to beat you, it is time to watch boxing and no longer fight. I wish Vyron Phillips good luck and I truly hope that he wins. I personally think this is a joke to waste all of this money on this fight and a black mark on Roy Jones’ career that someone is even allowing this is, is ridiculous. So once again, I think Roy Jones Jr. and Roy Jones Jr. Promotions should give Al Sands a chance to beat you . At least he is a professional fighter, who has trained hard, is ranked and has earned a chance to fight Roy Jones Jr. Minnesota fans if you agree with my opinion that Al Sands deserves his shot at Roy Jones Jr. please feel free to comment and express your opinion and maybe we can start enough heat to get this fight to happen. Because if Jones is willing to fight a fan from Minnesota, I don’t see why he wouldn’t give a fellow boxer a chance to proof himself. Man up! Where is the Respect Roy Jones Jr. #TheTruthHasSpoken
Over the last couple of weeks I have had the pleasure of interviewing two very tough and intelligent women. First I interviewed Heather “The Heat” Hardy about how she got started in the sport of boxing, some of the difficulties she has gone through in her life and how she has gotten to be where she is in the sport of boxing, a sport that is dominated mostly by men. Then we talked about Shelly Vincent a female boxer who has been calling her out for about three years now and it looks like this fight could finally happen. Heather had a few things to say about Vincent. She does respect her for what she has done to try and make this fight happen and for what she has done in women’s boxing but that is as far as her respect for her goes. Then I spoke with Shelly Vincent to see if she had a response to any of the things that Heather had said about her. Shelly wasted no time cutting down Heather and letting myself and the boxing fans now that this fight will be personal. She did however acknowledge the fact that Heather Hardy has worked hard and done a lot for women’s boxing but that is where the respect ends with her as well. She really does not like Heather and promises that when they do step into the ring with each other that she will hit her with a body shot that will make her piss blood for a week. Believe it or not in some ways these two women have a lot of similarities and in other ways are very different, but at the end of the day, they are both two tough female boxers that believe in their own heart that they will kick the other one’s ass. If you want to listen to everything they said about each other click on the link below and hear it from their own mouth, how they truly feel about each other. This will be a fight to remember.
“War of Words” Heather Hardy vs. Shelly Vincent
Yesterday a frustrated Tyson Cave called up Boxing with the Truth and offered to give me an exclusive interview as soon as possible. I was curious to know about what so I agreed. Today we sat down and talked about why him and his team are so frustrated and fed up with the Super Bantamweight division. He said, “No one wants to fight anyone and nobody wants to lose their 0.” I will fight any of them on the list, I would like to fight the best, the champions, but anyone on the WBC, IBF, WBA, and WBO”. At one time he wanted to fight Scott Quigg but after that boring performance against Carl Frampton, he says “forget it, I don’t want Quigg anymore.” I asked him about Nonito Donaire, and he said, he didn’t even want to talk about him, “He has maybe two fights left, I have a lot of respect for him and he is a Hall of Famer but he is on his way out and we have already contacted his people.” I want one of the champions.” The number one guy he wants is Guillermo Rigondeaux. He spoke directly to Guillermo Rigondeaux at one point in the interview, “Rigondeaux listen, if I could speak Spanish, I would, I am willing to fight you right now.” I mentioned two other top ranked guys like Jessie Magdaleno and Shingo Wake as well as the WBC Champion Julio Ceja and his response to these guys was, I will kick Jessie’s ass, Don’t even know Shingo Wake but you can call him up for me and Sampson who I just left wont put Julio Ceja in the ring with me.” At this point he doesn’t care who they are as long as they are top on the list or a World Champion, he wants his title shot he feels he has earned it. If you want to hear more about what he had to say, click on the link below and listen to the entire interview. #TheTruthHasSpoken
Tyson Cave “Calls Them All Out” BWTT
Garrett “The Ultimate Warrior” Wilson is not a WWE wrestling star but he is a professional boxer who comes to fight and comes to destroy his opponent. The problem is a lot of the cruiserweight division is avoiding him. He is 33 years old, and comes from the streets of Philadelphia, PA. I have been told even the crackheads in Philadelphia know how to fight, but Garrett Wilson is no crackhead, he might crack a few heads and maybe that is one of the reasons, there are whispers among some of the other boxers in his division that they have no intention of fighting him and that he is a beast. Some have even mentioned they are afraid he is on steroids, because he is built like a mac truck. But there has never been any evidence to this, it is just idol talk from other boxers. He just wants to fight and be the best he can be, but you can’t reach the top if no one will get in the ring with you. He doesn’t duck anyone, if you look at his record 16-10-1 you would think he wasnt that good, maybe not even a contender, but he isn’t like a lot of boxers nowadays trying to pad their undefeated records and make themselves look good, when they haven’t fought anyone. Garrett Wilson’s opponents have a combined record of 259-48-11, and you don’t even hear him mentioned in potential match ups in this division. The bottom line is are they scared of him. Well this month I will be interviewing him and I will find out why so many don’t want to fight him, why there are whispers about steroid use and could it be as simple as him being a Philadelphia fighter and a lot of boxers know when you fight a Philadelphia fighter you are in for a fight and some would rather take an easier road and avoid the path that the Ultimate Warrior travels. Well find out this month when we discuss these things and others in Garrett Wilson’s career. #TheTruthHasSpoken
This month I will be talking with three time World light flyweight champion Will Grisby about how he managed to become one of the best boxers to come out of the state of Minnesota and a three time world champion. The interview will be based around the talent that is coming out of the state of Minnesota and how far he thinks these boxers can go with their talent. We will discuss the following boxers:
- Middleweights: Caleb Truax 26-2-2, and Robert Brant 19-0.
- Crusierweights: Al Sands 16-2 and Ryan Watson 1-0.
- Welterweights: Jamal James 19-0 and Delorien Caraway 5-0
- Super Welterweights: Antonio Johnson and Veshawn Owens 1-0
Also sometime this month I will be interviewing Welterweight prospect Jamal James 19-0, one of the boxers we will be talking about. #TheTruthHasSpoken
