Well tonight’s fight card on June 11th, 2016, Battle at the Bear will feature some great talent and among them will be four of Duluth, Minnesota’s skilled boxers. Headlining the show, after almost a two year layoff will be super lightweight R.J. “T-Rex” Laase 12-2 who was suppose to fight a few months back for his return to the ring but his opponent couldn’t make the weight, so Laase continued to train and wait for his next opportunity. Now his first fight back since his loss to Rondale Hubbert almost two years ago for the Minnesota State Super Lightweight Title will be in the Main Event against a very tough opponent the Wisconsin Super Welterweight champion Benito Tovar 7-2-4. The reason for his long absence from the ring was because he chose to go back to college and finish his earning his degree. The Co-Main Event will feature Cruiserweight Al “The Haitian Temptation” Sands 16-2, who has had a great training camp with some new teammates and is excited to be stepping up against the crafty veteran “Dangerous” Damon Reed 48-18 who has been in the ring with some of the best, James Toney, Hasim Rahman, and the Heavyweight Champion of the World, Deontay Wilder. Al Sands knows to step up to the next level, he must beat Reed who is coming off of a win over undefeated Aaron Green. To get the action started for the Duluth fighters you will also see in the ring welterweight Markus “The Hope of the Hillside” Morris 8-2 taking on a crafty veteran as well. He will test his boxing skills against a guy who has seen it all, Wayne Martell 25-5-1. The newest professional boxer to come out of Duluth Cruiserweight Ryan Watson 2-0 , will also be showcasing his talent. He was a very outstanding amateur boxer and he will be going head to head with Tommy Ray 3-1 .The rumor is that Ray called him out for this fight and this won’t be the first time they have met in the ring, their last meeting was in the amateurs, the question is what will happen when they meet as professionals for the first time. Also some time during the night it will get Nasty. You will see Cloquet’s Lightweight Winston “Nasty Time” Anderson 4-2 returning to the ring after suffering two back to back knock outs, he is excited to show his fans what he has been working on. He has recently changed gyms and trainers and has said he feels a lot better about what has been going on with his training leading up to this fight. So make sure you don’t miss him show off his boxing skills against Aaron Ely 1-1 who is known as an MMA/Boxer. This card features a lot more action packed boxers from other areas as well. It is an eight bout fight card. Doors open at 6pm and fights start at 7pm. This is Jim Loons’ first show at Black Bear Casino, Carlton, MN. and hopefully the first of many. So come out and support the local talent and enjoy some great fights. Jordan Shimmell 20(16)-1 is an outstanding boxer, who has had a great amateur career, he fought all over the world and in his professional career he has had the opportunity to spar with world champions and some of the best boxers out there. He is a very likable and nice guy and comes from a boxing family including his father and grandfather who are also part of his team. I have all the respect in the world for Jordan and his family, but I think tonight, May 17th at Black Bear Casino in Cartlon, MN that Jordan Shimmell will be stopped for the first time in his professional career. His opponent Murat “Iron” Gassiev 22(16)-0 from Vladikavkaz, Russia, is a knock out artist. He is a very aggressive and hungry fighter. He comes to hurt his opponent and knock them out, not just out box them. He will come forward and be in Jordan’s face the entire fight, pushing the action. I think Jordan will have to fight like he hasn’t had to fight in his professional career yet. He will be on his back foot, trying to out box Gassiev and I don’t believe that will be enough. Shimmell is a very technical boxer, strong and does have power of his own, but I think after recently being out boxed by Isiah Thomas who was a technical boxer and not very aggressive that Shimmel could be in for a short night. Shimmell is going to have to fight not just box, this fight could get nasty and dirty, and I am not sure Shimmell can fight like that, I have seen him box but I am not sure if he can fight. This is why I believe he will be KO’d before the final bell, I think he will be pressed into a fight and that is not his comfort zone and when you are out of your comfort zone, you tend to make mistakes. If he makes a mistake tonight he will hit the canvas. As a boxing fan and a guy that knows Jordan Shimmell personally, I would love to see him win this Cruiserweight 12 round World Title Eliminator fight, but as a boxing writer, I just think he is about to face off with a dangerous opponent that he wont have an answer for. Also on the card is Minnesota’s own Joey “Minnesota Ice” Abell 31(29)-9 vs Wes Nofire 19(15)-0. You can watch all the action on FS1 on Premier Boxing Champions at 9pm E or get yourself a ticket and watch the fights live at Black Bear Casino, Carlton, MN. Either way don’t miss this talented card of boxers. #TheTruthHasSpoken
After Fight follow up: The fight started with Gassiev stalking Shimmell, as Shimmell moved around throwing good combinations looking relaxed, Gassiev just waited for Shimmell to feel comfortable with only seconds left in the first round, he threw a right hand that just missed Shimmell’s chin but followed it with a left hook that landed hard, snapping Jordan’s head from one side to the other and then dropping his body to the canvas. It was a vicious knockout, he was out cold. Several minutes passed before there was movement, the crowd looked on in horror. Finally Jordan got up and walked over to Gassiev and shook his hand and hugged him. It was nice to see that Jordan Shimmell was okay, it was a scary moment for his fans and boxing fans in general. You have to respect him for getting in the ring with a dangerous opponent, but in boxing, every opponent is dangerous, one punch can change, a fight or a life. following is the link to watch the fight and see a candidate for knock out of the year on Premier Boxing Champions #TheTruthHasSpoken

Over the last year Cruiserweight Al “The Haitian Temptation” Sands 16(14)-2 has been doing a lot of soul searching inside and outside the ring. He has put some much needed puzzle pieces together in his life. Two of those pieces are Mike McKean former amateur boxer as his Manager/Trainer and more recently he has brought in as his Co-Manager John D’Auria who has in the past been known more as a boxing photographer and boxing writer/ interviewer for Boxing with the Truth. Between the two of these men they have a lot of boxing knowledge to offer Al Sands, and being the sponge that he is, I am sure he will adsorb a lot of it. Hopefully the three of them will be able to take his career to the next level. He has also started his own amateur team of boxers “The Haitian Temptation Team” which consists of about twenty individuals. He is currently training out of I.S.T. gym in Duluth, MN but is presently working on opening up a gym upstairs from there to help his team continue to grow. He started out 2016 with a 2nd round TKO over Gary Tapusoa in January and now he is in camp preparing for the most experienced boxer he has face yet. On June 11th, 2016 he will face Damon “Dangerous” Reed 48(32)-18, a crafty veteran who most recently upset 16-0 Aaron Green. He has been in with some of the best in the sport. Hasim Rahman, James Toney, Monte Barrett, prospect Jordan Shimmell and Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder among other great talent. In order for Al and his new team to move to the next level he has to show convincingly that he can get passed guys like Reed. There is not a lot of Cruiserweights left for Al Sands to face in the State of Minnesota, so one of his goals after this fight is to test the waters on the road and to try and get matched up with some out of state fights. He loves his hometown fans and the support he has received this far in his career but to make it to the next level, he has to not only let Minnesota know who he is but he has to make his mark on the entire nation and hopefully the world. The team has a plan and they have goals and this year is all about putting the pieces together and starting to reach those goals one step at a time and one fight at a time. So look for Al Sands hopefully to be in the ring at least three more times after June 11th if things work out. This is the first step into the danger zone, but if you want to reach the next level in any sport, you have to take risks and step up the competition. It is time for Al Sands to grow as a man and a fighter. See you at the next level. #TheTruthHasSpoken
Today a fan will get to have his dream come true, he will be stepping into the ring with former World Champion Roy Jones Jr. If Vyron Phillips wins he will be paid $100,000, if he loses, he gets a boxing lesson from the champ, his hotel paid for and a plane ticket back to Minneapolis, MN. Vyron Phillips saw an ad about sending in a video to fight Roy Jones Jr. but had no idea that he would be one of the top four picked. It came down to him a professional MMA fighter with a record of 6-3 and three professional boxers. He said “he still had to jump throw a lot of hoops to make it happen, this is his opportunity”. Since the fight has been approved he told me that his life has changed forever. You can watch him take on Roy Jones Jr. in the Main Event of a four fight card including two MMA matches and an WWE wrestling match. If you go to URshow.TV and pay $11.99 you can see if Vyron Phillips achieves the dream that so many fans would love to do, beat a World Champion. Also if you would like to hear the interview that Boxing with the Truth did with Vyron Phillips this morning, click on the link below. #TheTruthHasSpoken
Vyron Phillips “The Fan Picked to fight Roy Jones Jr.”BWTT
This Sunday, March 20th, Roy Jones Jr. will climb into the ring against a boxing fan from Minneapolis, MN. 33 year old Vyron Phillips is a former amateur boxer and MMA fighter that was some how picked to have a chance to beat Roy Jones Jr. in a fight on Pay-Per-View in Arizona and if he wins he will receive $100,000. Well I know another person that would love to fight Roy Jones Jr. from Duluth, MN and that is Professional boxer Al “The Haitian Temptation” Sands 16(14)-2 and I am sure he would be willing to take even a quarter of what Vyron Phillips is being paid. I know some Jones’ team has been contacted more then once about a fight with Sands and there has been no response. So I guess Roy Jones has fallen so far that the only people left he can beat is a former amateur boxer. What if Vyron Phillips wins. Then there is nowhere left for Jones to go but into retirement. If you go from being a World champion to the point where a fan has a chance to beat you, it is time to watch boxing and no longer fight. I wish Vyron Phillips good luck and I truly hope that he wins. I personally think this is a joke to waste all of this money on this fight and a black mark on Roy Jones’ career that someone is even allowing this is, is ridiculous. So once again, I think Roy Jones Jr. and Roy Jones Jr. Promotions should give Al Sands a chance to beat you . At least he is a professional fighter, who has trained hard, is ranked and has earned a chance to fight Roy Jones Jr. Minnesota fans if you agree with my opinion that Al Sands deserves his shot at Roy Jones Jr. please feel free to comment and express your opinion and maybe we can start enough heat to get this fight to happen. Because if Jones is willing to fight a fan from Minnesota, I don’t see why he wouldn’t give a fellow boxer a chance to proof himself. Man up! Where is the Respect Roy Jones Jr. #TheTruthHasSpoken
Over the last couple of weeks I have had the pleasure of interviewing two very tough and intelligent women. First I interviewed Heather “The Heat” Hardy about how she got started in the sport of boxing, some of the difficulties she has gone through in her life and how she has gotten to be where she is in the sport of boxing, a sport that is dominated mostly by men. Then we talked about Shelly Vincent a female boxer who has been calling her out for about three years now and it looks like this fight could finally happen. Heather had a few things to say about Vincent. She does respect her for what she has done to try and make this fight happen and for what she has done in women’s boxing but that is as far as her respect for her goes. Then I spoke with Shelly Vincent to see if she had a response to any of the things that Heather had said about her. Shelly wasted no time cutting down Heather and letting myself and the boxing fans now that this fight will be personal. She did however acknowledge the fact that Heather Hardy has worked hard and done a lot for women’s boxing but that is where the respect ends with her as well. She really does not like Heather and promises that when they do step into the ring with each other that she will hit her with a body shot that will make her piss blood for a week. Believe it or not in some ways these two women have a lot of similarities and in other ways are very different, but at the end of the day, they are both two tough female boxers that believe in their own heart that they will kick the other one’s ass. If you want to listen to everything they said about each other click on the link below and hear it from their own mouth, how they truly feel about each other. This will be a fight to remember.
“War of Words” Heather Hardy vs. Shelly Vincent
Yesterday a frustrated Tyson Cave called up Boxing with the Truth and offered to give me an exclusive interview as soon as possible. I was curious to know about what so I agreed. Today we sat down and talked about why him and his team are so frustrated and fed up with the Super Bantamweight division. He said, “No one wants to fight anyone and nobody wants to lose their 0.” I will fight any of them on the list, I would like to fight the best, the champions, but anyone on the WBC, IBF, WBA, and WBO”. At one time he wanted to fight Scott Quigg but after that boring performance against Carl Frampton, he says “forget it, I don’t want Quigg anymore.” I asked him about Nonito Donaire, and he said, he didn’t even want to talk about him, “He has maybe two fights left, I have a lot of respect for him and he is a Hall of Famer but he is on his way out and we have already contacted his people.” I want one of the champions.” The number one guy he wants is Guillermo Rigondeaux. He spoke directly to Guillermo Rigondeaux at one point in the interview, “Rigondeaux listen, if I could speak Spanish, I would, I am willing to fight you right now.” I mentioned two other top ranked guys like Jessie Magdaleno and Shingo Wake as well as the WBC Champion Julio Ceja and his response to these guys was, I will kick Jessie’s ass, Don’t even know Shingo Wake but you can call him up for me and Sampson who I just left wont put Julio Ceja in the ring with me.” At this point he doesn’t care who they are as long as they are top on the list or a World Champion, he wants his title shot he feels he has earned it. If you want to hear more about what he had to say, click on the link below and listen to the entire interview. #TheTruthHasSpoken
